Pepin’s Pharmaceutical Prattle for 07-03-2006

Quote of the day:    Some are born great, some achieve greatness,

and some hire public relations officers. Daniel J. Boorstin (1914 - )

Good morning !

Promises… promises

I know that I have been promising a change in the PPP for July but I missed my mark.

I have been using three different ways to identify the site and the ppp and something should probably go.

    A) I used the very GOOGLE-like PHARMWORKS banner on the e-mail reminders.

    B) I use the PHARMWORKS’ Anvil picture (Anvil in the rough shape of Minnesota

with a cutout on the base in the shape of a capsule with the

        tagline Forging Drug thought.

    C) I also use the caricature of myself ( often times modified from the original) to link to and head the ppp pages.

Now comes the part where I ask for your help….

Please help. How? (you ask). Good question says I.

If I were to retire one of these multiple icons, which you choose to pitch?

Send me an e-mal at spepin@PHARMWORKS.com with any suggestions. Use the title “Fan mail from some flounder” (or “PPP Feedback”)  so that my spam filters will not knock it out.  I would like to know how often you read the e-mail and/or go to the site every month (HINT: I publish it weekly). DO you ever click on the Google ad boxes?

I also am looking for any suggestions on how to improve the ppp and make it more useful  and/or entertaining. (Hey one out of two isn’t bad).

Hope to hear from you. (Images, how often you read it, other suggestions)

===================================================

ps. Best answer this week to the question "How are you?" was "Perfect"

pps. Occasionally, some of the links require FREE registration.... I'm sure you can handle THAT slight inconvenience.

pps. Happy Independence Day!

1) Let's Make a Deal

Supreme Court allows "Authorized Generic" ruling to stand. No antitrust violations exist.

2) The Mark of Zocor

TEVA wins approval for a generic form of Zocor.  The price of Zocor has already plummeted. While there may be a delay, the generics will win the market.

3) Teva for two and two for Teva (both Z drugs)

Teva has also won approval to market a generic form of Zoloft so Pfizer isn’t going to get depressed about it… they willl make their own generic form of the drug.

4) Prezita….Wonder if this is for a Pre-existing condition….

Prezista (darunavir) approved on fast track for HIV in combination with retonivir (another antiretroviral) and with food. As  with many of the other anti-HIV drugs, Prezista has many drug-drug interactions.

5) Where’s the beef?

FDA will beef up drug survelance initiatives and clinical trials. Others will beef about it because it allows more data from drug company studies and from countries outside of the USA.

6) One for the money

Seldane, the first non-sedating antihistamine, was withdrawn from the market US in 1999 due to cardiac arrhythmia problems. The drug had a ton of drug-drug interactions. Now it appears that the drug might be effective against malaria. (You don’t think that the money Bill Gates is putting into malaria had any effect on the renewed interest in malaria do you?)

7) You are getting sleepy…..

Cognitive therapy beats hypnotics! If you red this piece you will see that patients were taught good sleep hiegen and not just gummed to death on a couch. With 25% of the population taking “sleepers” (at least once a year) this may be the best news ever…. sleep is natural and can be obtained without chemicals. Follow the simple do’s and don’ts and you may be on your way to chemical free sleep.

Have a SUPER-FANTASTIC week.
